Whether in production, logistics, administration, or healthcare, AI solutions are changing the way we work. To turn ideas into real-world applications, the state of Bremen is supporting selected projects in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) with a new special call for proposals.
The “Research, Development, and Innovation (FEI)” program supports practical projects that develop, test, and launch new AI technologies. The aim is to strengthen innovation in the region and stimulate new economic growth.
What is eligible for funding?
Funding is available for technology-oriented projects that represent a significant leap forward in technology – from concept to prototype. Examples include AI applications for predictive maintenance, medical diagnostics, optimization of administrative processes, or generative tools in the creative industries. Projects involving other key technologies such as robotics, simulation, or hydrogen solutions are also eligible for funding.
Who can participate?
Companies of all sizes – especially SMEs – as well as research institutions in cooperation with companies from Bremen and Bremerhaven are eligible to apply. Joint projects between industry and science are particularly welcome.
How high is the funding?
- Individual projects: up to €150,000 grant
- Joint projects: up to €250,000, in special cases even up to €400,000
- In addition: low-interest innovation loans of up to €500,000 per applicant
Funding is available for personnel costs, technical equipment, external consulting, and project-related operating expenses, among other things.
How is the process carried out?
Interested companies or research institutions start with a brief project outline (max. 2 pages) and an initial meeting with BAB (Bremen) or BIS (Bremerhaven). If the idea is convincing, a detailed project outline can be submitted by September 30, 2025. If the evaluation is positive, the full application is then submitted.
